Casey McNulty
Casey McNulty has emerged as a rising expert and leader in the field of satellite solar array, playing a key role across multiple companies and key satellite programs. He completed a pair of internships for Boeing’s Space Launch System in New Orleans, LA while earning his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. Casey joined Boeing as a full-time employee in 2018 at the Boeing El Segundo Satellite Factory, where he became the Responsible Manufacturing Authority for printed circuit board production, overseeing critical aspects of PCB manufacturing and ensuring strict adherence to quality standards. Later joining Northrop Grumman in Goleta, CA as a Manufacturing/Test Engineer, where he was entrusted with end-to-end production and test of Deployable Solar Arrays. In his current role, he is the Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) and design engineer for Boeing solar arrays. Casey manages the full lifecycle ownership over solar arrays, encompassing design, manufacturing, testing, qualifications, mechanisms, solar array electronics, harnessing and final array integration. His oversight spans multiple Boeing sites, a variety of suppliers and a diverse international team. Casey is now the REA for three solar array programs, including the critical WGS11 solar array which is developed for the United States military communication network.
Casey has guided his teams through substantial issues related to the manufacturing of composite panel solar wings for Boeing’s flagship programs. He successfully navigated his production and engineering teams through a root cause corrective action process while minimizing setbacks wherever possible. Casey and his teams were ultimately able to eliminate substantial production issues and enable improved production processes and designs to streamline builds for the future. Major and prolonged production issues were resolved as a result of his efforts, enabling Boeing’s continued leadership in the manufacturing large solar wings. While working at Boeing, Casey also stepped into a leadership role for a multi-year thermal lifecycle test as part of a flagship qualification campaign, a role in which he handled key hardware and special test equipment while providing leadership and mentorship to other team members. Thanks in no small part to his supervision, Boeing is now on the verge of completing this multi-year test, which will substantially reduce risks for the program. Casey has also taken a lead role in developing solar array design standards and guides for the Boeing El Segundo solar array group.
Outside of his work responsibilities, Casey dedicates time to his community and the broader aerospace industry. He has co-led the Boeing team in events for The Heroes Project, a non-profile organization that works with disabled and injured veterans, for several years and continues to do so today.
